ISIS-S executed lethal attacks 80 km deep behind the Somali Defense line

The fighters of the Islamic State Somalia group who were involved in the December 31 and January 1 conflict were part of a coordinated attack against Puntland forces in northeastern Somalia.

Exclusive: Between December 31, 2024, and January 1, 2025, the Islamic State Somalia group carried out a coordinated attack using a car bomb and multiple suicide bombers on a major military base in northeastern Somalia. As a result, the Somali security forces suffered heavy casualties. ISIS-Somalia carried out its deadliest attack yesterday, involving the use of dozens of suicide bombers.

In Darajale, the two Puntland outposts were attacked by SVBIEDs (Suicide Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices), followed by PBIEDs (Person-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices) entering the bases, with 5 and 4 attackers respectively. The attacks occurred in a region that is preparing for increased pressure from the Counter-Islamic State (C-IS).
